Can the BlackVue DR900S record in 2K video quality, 1080p or in 60 FPS?Updated a year ago

The BlackVue DR900S offers the following recording resolutions from the front-facing camera:

  • 4K UHD (3840×2160) @30fps (Extreme)
  • 4K UHD (3840×2160) @30fps
  • Full HD (1920×1080) @60fps
  • Full HD (1920×1080) @30fps

Unfortunately, it does not offer recording in 2K at this time.

If you are looking for a dash cam that can record in both 4K and 2K, we recommend the Thinkware U1000 or the Viofo A129 Pro. Both the Thinkware U1000 and the Viofo A129 Pro are capable of recording in 4K UHD @30fps with the option to scale-down to 2K QHD @60fps.

Why are more frames per second beneficial?

Downscaling the footage to 2k @ 60fps rather than recording in 4k @ 30 fps can be beneficial for smoother-looking footage. 60 frames per second ensures that the video clips appear smoother because there are twice the number of still frames every second compared to 30 Frames per second. Recording at a Higher FPS is best for capturing details when in motion, as well as combating Motion Blur.
