What is the difference between the BlackVue Power Magic Pro and the Power Magic EZ?Updated 15 days ago

To start, both the BlackVue Power Magic Pro and the Power Magic EZ are installation tools for your BlackVue dash cam. You will need one or the two (not both) to supply power to your dash cam from your vehicle's battery.

Please note that BlackVue has discontinued the Power Magic EZ as of March 2020, and the Power Magic Pro as of February 2023. The new BlackVue Hardwiring Kit and BlackVue OBD-II Power Cable are only compatible with most of the newer X-Series cameras, and are not compatible with the S-Series, DR750X LTE/LTE Plus, or any of the older series.

The Power Magic EZ is an OBD-II connecting cable that's connected to the vehicle's diagnostics port, and the Power Magic Pro is a hardwiring kit that's hardwired to the vehicle's fuse box.

From an installation standpoint, the Power Magic EZ is an easier plug-and-play method while still being able to achieve parking mode, whereas the Power Magic Pro is a more traditional installation method.

You can read more about using the Power Magic EZ in our installation guide, and you can read more about using the Power Magic Pro here in our setup guide.

If you are looking for an OBD-powered dash cam, we recommend upgrading to a new X-Series camera or one of the Thinkware cameras, which still have the option of an OBD cable for power.
