My BlackVue dash cam's Wi-Fi disconnects from the smartphone. How do I fix it?Updated a year ago

For a smooth Wi-Fi connection of your smartphone to the BlackVue dash cam's Wi-Fi, the distance between the dash cam and the smartphone should not be more than 10m (32ft).

Strong radio interference due to other electronic devices in the car can affect the Wi-Fi connectivity of the dash cam and it might randomly disconnect from the smartphone. To troubleshoot this issue, turn off all other electronic devices and try to connect again

You may also want to try taking out the dash cam from mount power it up at home using a common power adapter and try to connect your smartphone to it's Wi-Fi.

For Android Users:

  • Before connecting any Android device to the dash cam, make sure to turn off the “Smart Network Switch” option in the Wi-Fi settings of the smartphone. BlackVue acts as a Wi-Fi server for your phone or tablet, but it does not provide a connection to the Internet, so the “Smart Network Switch” function might cause it to disconnect from the BlackVue.
  • In some android devices with Android OS 6.0 onward, turning on the location in the application permissions might solve the connectivity issue  (go to Settings -> Apps (or Applications) -> Application manager -> BlackVue -> Permissions -> Location, choose “Allow”)

For iPhone Users:

  • Before connecting your iPhone to the dash cam, make sure that the “Wi-Fi Assist” option is turned off (Go to Settings > Cellular. Then scroll down and tap the slider to turn off Wi-Fi Assist).

If You're Having Trouble Connecting:

  1. Ensure you're connecting to the dash cam's Wifi network first and not just opening the BlackVue smartphone app. Please note that the default password for the BlackVue DR590W, DR750S and DR900S models would be found on the front unit after you detach it from the front mount.
  2. Try turning off your data so that you're not connected to the Internet.
  3. If you're using an Android device, turn off Smart Network Switch, which you can do from the setting option in your phone.
  4. Try a firmware reflash by following the steps below:
    1. Go to the BlackVue Firmware Downloads page
    2. The instructions are in 8 steps at the top of the page
    3. Scroll down to the firmware section and locate your dash cam model
