Why am I getting a battery drain warning message?Updated 8 days ago

In many newer European vehicles, most notably those produced by BMW (Mini, Rolls-Royce) and JLR (Jaguar, Land Rover), you may receive a Battery Drain Warning message or something along those lines on your dashboard.

If this occurs after you have installed a dash camera, it is because the dash camera is drawing power (current) from the vehicle battery while the vehicle is off (typically when the camera is running in parking mode). These vehicles tend to be sensitive to any power draw they deem excessive, as they can't tell whether it's being caused by an aftermarket accessory or an actual electrical problem.

We also have seen some vehicles, mostly BMW products, which disable certain features (such as Comfort Access, where the vehicle unlocks when it senses the driver approaching) while the Battery Drain Warning is active.

Here are 2 ways to resolve this:

1. Disable parking mode and run the dash camera while the vehicle is running only.

PROS: You will never have the warning message ever again, and you will never have the chance of a dead vehicle battery due to the dash camera running in parking mode.

CONS: You will no longer have parking mode recording.

2. Add a battery pack to your dash cam setup

PROS: It will get rid of the warning message and you will still get parking mode from your dash camera. You will also get more runtime since the battery pack can be fully utilized without any risk of harming your vehicle battery.

CONS: Cost for product + installation, especially if you already had the dash cam hardwired
